Founders

Richard & Carmen Abril

The original La Canasta Restaurant was established in 1962 by our parents, Richard & Carmen Abril. 2022 marks 60 years that La Canasta has served the Valley of the Sun. 

For over 60 years, we have preserved and continue to use the recipes that our Mother & Father created, using only the freshest and finest ingredients in all of our Sonoran Style dishes. All the while, maintaining the original authenticity, flavors and consistency with the rich family tradition of our parent's pride & love in preparing these fine foods for our customers each day. 

La Canasta "Capitolio", as a family and in honor of our parent's love for their home state of Arizona, installed a copper dome over the patio, which is our proud tribute to the Arizona State Capitol Building, located only a few city blocks from our location.
